Justice Minister Khalid Shawani Backs Efforts to Uncover Mass Grave Victims


Baghdad: Justice Minister Khalid Shawani affirmed on Monday his support for national efforts to uncover the fate of victims of mass graves.



According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Justice stated in a press release that Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met with the national team responsible for opening mass graves. During the meeting, they discussed the operational mechanisms employed in this case and the efforts being made to determine the fate of the victims and provide justice for their families.



The minister affirmed, according to the statement, that the mass graves file holds immense national and humanitarian importance, given the responsibility it represents towards the victims and their families. He stressed the necessity of continuing search operations, exhuming remains, and identifying the victims to return them to their families.



He emphasized the need to unify efforts, provide support and coordination, and streamline procedures for the team’s work, in accordance with established legal and scientific standards. This will contribute to documenting the crimes, preserving the rights of the victims, strengthening justice and fairness, and safeguarding Iraq’s national memory.
