Baghdad: Independent Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman called on Iraqi politicians to be more serious in dealing with the current situation, and to take US President Trump’s current and future decisions towards Iraq seriously. Othman highlighted the complexities arising from the geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Iraq’s regional dynamics.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Othman stated that Iran has concluded a comprehensive agreement with Russia, which includes a military aspect, to protect itself from US President Trump’s policies. This development poses a challenge for Iraq, as it might find itself in a difficult position if it becomes entangled in the tensions between Iran and the United States.

Othman further mentioned that discussions are ongoing between the Iraqi government and armed factions regarding disarmament. However, the outcomes of these talks remain undisclosed. He emphasized that regional influences, particularly Iran’s support for some factions, play a significant role in determining the success of disarmament efforts.
