Baghdad: The Minister of Transport, Wahab Al-Hassani, engaged in discussions with the President of the Iraqi-British Business Council, Baroness Emma Nicholson, and her delegation to explore prospects for joint cooperation and the development of Iraq’s transport sector. Representatives from various member companies of the Council were also in attendance.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting tackled the outcomes of the Council delegation’s recent visit to the General Company for Maritime Transport and the General Company for Iraqi Ports located in Basra Governorate. Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in the manufacture of marine vessels and the improvement of port facilities, aiming to enhance the technical and operational capacities of Iraq’s maritime sector.

Both parties explored strategies to develop human resources within the Ministry of Transport’s departments. This would involve specialized training programs and the exchange of expertise. Additionally, they examined ways to strengthen cooperation in aviation, air navigation, railways, maritime transport, and ports, utilizing the expertise of the British side.

Baroness Nicholson and her delegation expressed their appreciation to the Minister for the warm reception and reiterated their commitment to fostering ongoing cooperation and supporting initiatives to advance Iraq’s transport sector.
