Baghdad: Minister of Water Resources Muthanna al-Tamimi met with Clemens Simetner, the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Iraq, to discuss enhancing joint efforts and developing water management strategies. The meeting aimed to address the pressing challenges of water scarcity and climate change, which are increasingly impacting Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry released a statement highlighting the review of current cooperation frameworks and the exploration of expanding them. The focus was on improving water resources management, rationalizing water use, supporting modern irrigation projects, and leveraging European expertise in the sector.

Both parties stressed the importance of activating the partnership agreement between Iraq and the European Union in irrigation. They discussed future projects to bolster Iraq’s capacity to manage water scarcity and support the Ministry’s plans to modernize infrastructure. This collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to achieving water security and sustainable development in the region.
