Baghdad: The Ministry of Commerce has given the green light to a new operating mechanism for commercial zero-grade flour mills while also adopting an electronic platform for selling bran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Board of Directors of the General Company for Grain Processing has approved a mechanism to operate mills producing commercial zero-grade flour. This decision aligns with regulations and procedures designed to organize operations and prevent overlap between flour production for the ration card system and commercial production. The Board has recommended that this mechanism be submitted to the Minister of Trade for ratification.

The Ministry of Trade, in a press release, stated that these developments were discussed during the eighth meeting of the company’s Board of Directors. The meeting was chaired by the Director General, Haider Nouri Al-Karawi, with board members in attendance. Several agenda items were addressed, leading to decisions and recommendations that aim to enhance the company’s performance and resources in line with applicable laws and regulations.

The statement further mentioned that the Board has deliberated on the operational mechanism for the bidding system, recommending the approval of proposed amendments to streamline procedures and boost operational efficiency. Additionally, the Board has approved the announcement of auctions for bran sales via an electronic platform, in collaboration with Key Card Company and with the Central Bank of Iraq’s approval. This move is expected to advance the electronic transformation of sales procedures, ensuring greater transparency and organization in the bidding process.

In its continuous efforts to maximize resources, the company also discussed a proposal to charge specific fees for processing bakery and oven license renewals, as well as issuing replacements for lost or damaged licenses, all in accordance with the prevailing legal and administrative frameworks.
