Baghdad: The Ministry of Education has announced the reinstatement of the retake system for sixth-grade preparatory students who fail one or two subjects during the 2025-2026 academic year. Students in all branches of secondary school, except external exam students, will be eligible to retake their exams in the 2026-2027 academic year.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry outlined that eligible students may attend classes regularly or opt only to retake the exams for the subjects they failed. They will not be required to sit for the mid-year or semester exams and will keep their exam number and grades for subjects they passed successfully. The system restricts eligible students from transferring from their original school.
The Ministry further clarified that the latest edition of the prescribed curriculum will be used for the ministerial exams. The policy will not apply to students who previously benefited from the retake system in earlier years. The deadline for submitting applications is set for December 1, 2026.
