Baghdad: The Ministry of Education has announced a significant policy change, allowing special education teachers to take on administrative roles within their schools. This decision is aimed at enhancing the management and delivery of educational services in schools dedicated exclusively to special education programs.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Minister of Education Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri has given his approval for special education teachers to assume the roles of principal or assistant principal. This move is in line with the regulations and instructions outlined in the School Administration Project. The initiative seeks to leverage the expertise of special education teachers in administrative positions to better serve students with disabilities and special educational needs.

The General Directorate of Public, Private, and Foreign Education has further clarified that teachers assuming these administrative roles will be required to maintain their full teaching load. This requirement ensures that their specialized skills and knowledge continue to benefit students in special education classes and programs. The decision underscores the Ministry’s commitment to improving educational outcomes for students with special needs by integrating experienced educators into leadership positions.
