Sulaimani: The Ministry of Environment, represented by the General Company for Carbon Economics, participated in the Sulaimani Summit 2026. The participation took the form of a panel discussion addressing the development of housing projects and the transition toward green, sustainable cities and infrastructure.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry was represented by Haider Qasim Al-Darraji, Director General of the General Company for Carbon Economics. He highlighted the importance of adopting an integrated urban model that transcends the concept of traditional residential complexes, focusing instead on energy efficiency, the adoption of clean energy sources, prudent resource management, and emissions reduction.

The session discussed the role of carbon economics and green finance in supporting urban development projects and transforming environmental and climate goals into investment opportunities that contribute to sustainable economic development.

Al-Darraji emphasized the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships and expanding the adoption of green solutions in housing and urban development projects. He noted that these measures contribute to building more efficient and sustainable Iraqi cities and enhancing their resilience in the face of environmental and climate challenges.
