Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that it had detected and dismantled more than 1,700 rumors in the country since the beginning of this year until September. In a statement, the Ministry of Interior quoted the head of its Media and Public Relations Department, Major General Miqdad Miri, as saying that the Anti-Rumor Department had detected 1,722 rumors, including 843 security-related rumors, 386 political rumors, 15 health-related rumors, 302 economic rumors, and 173 social rumors, in addition to three field-related rumors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Miri added that the department conducted awareness campaigns that included seminars, lectures, and workshops, analyzing 597 rumors and addressing 53 others. He also noted that 128 field campaigns were carried out during this period, emphasizing that the Ministry of Interior continues its efforts and utilizes all available resources to combat rumors and mitigate their impact on society. He stressed the importance of enhancing awareness and education, and intensifying field and digital campaigns to ensure the protection of citizens’ security and safeguard social stability from media misinformation.
