Abu ghraib: The Ministry of Justice announced today the outbreak of a fire in one of the halls under maintenance at Abu Ghraib Central Prison, which was empty of inmates.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the incident resulted in the death of one staff member and injury of two others with varying degrees of severity. The statement confirmed that civil defense teams quickly and efficiently brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the prison, while the injured were immediately transferred for medical treatment.

The statement added that investigations are ongoing to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire.

The statement also noted that Minister of Justice Khalid Shwani visited the prison immediately after the incident to monitor the situation, check on the health of the injured, and supervise the firefighting and emergency teams on site, while ordering an urgent investigation into the cause of the fire.
