Basra: The Union of Writers and Authors in Basra recently hosted a lecture by Professor Hamid Ahmed Hamdan titled "The Iraqi National Assembly and Parliamentary Elections in Iraq," focusing on the history of Iraq's electoral process during the monarchy era.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the lecture was moderated by Dr. Mushtaq Aidan, a historian and one of Dr. Hamdan's former students. Dr. Aidan reviewed Dr. Hamdan's academic journey and contributions as a history professor at the University of Basra, noting his extensive experience and the valuable historical documents he holds.

Dr. Hamdan's lecture illuminated the mechanisms of parliamentary elections during the monarchy, discussing the understandings, interventions, and loyalties that influenced election results. He relied on historical documents and evidence to support his analysis. A highlight of the event was Dr. Hamdan's presentation of a rare book on the Iraqi constitution, written in 1924, with copies in Arabic, English, and Turkish, alongside his collection of rare historical documents.

The session included a comparative analysis of past and current elections, leading to an extensive discussion with attendees. Writers and intellectuals such as Ali Al-Amara and Alaa Al-Issa participated, with Dr. Hamdan answering questions with precise, well-documented responses, enriching the dialogue and extending the session.
