Fujian: Local authorities in China’s Fujian province have evacuated more than 599,000 people due to days of torrential rain.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the provincial flood control and drought relief center reported that 599,300 residents from vulnerable coastal and land areas have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The center has activated its Level III emergency response for flood control, which is the third highest level of alert, while maintaining a Level IV emergency response for the ongoing typhoon. In response to the crisis, several departments within Fujian province have urgently allocated 210 million yuan, equivalent to approximately $31 million, for emergency rescue, disaster relief, and post-disaster recovery efforts in the severely affected regions.

Typhoon Saudel, recognized as the 18th typhoon of 2026, made its third landfall in Changpu County, Changzhou City, Fujian province last Thursday. This event led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents as authorities issued warnings about the impending strong winds and heavy rain. In neighboring Jiangxi Province, the typhoon has impacted 128,500 residents across 53 counties, necessitating the emergency evacuation of around 8,700 people. Consequently, Jiangxi authorities activated a Level IV emergency response for flood control on Friday.
