Interior ministry: Interior Ministry said on Saturday that all weapons in the country would come under the control of the state and its official institutions, with more than 600 tribal sheikhs cooperating in registering weapons belonging to members of their tribes.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Interior Ministry Media and Relations Department head Major General Miqdad Miri stated that there had been a broad response from tribal sheikhs to the issue of placing weapons under state control. More than 600 sheikhs have opened their tribal guesthouses and are cooperating with ministry teams to register weapons belonging to members of their tribes.

Miri highlighted that Baghdad’s Rusafa district recorded the highest registration rate due to its population density and geographical area. He emphasized the government’s clear and settled position, both politically and security-wise, that all weapons in the country must be under the authority of the state and its security agencies.

The process of regulating weapons and implementing the political agreement on the matter is set to begin in earnest after September 30. The ministry is currently in the regulatory phase, which includes registering and accounting for weapons, and this phase is scheduled to end on December 31, 2026.

Following the completion of the regulatory phase, a new phase will begin in accordance with decisions issued by the government, with the Interior Ministry serving as the implementing authority.
