Madrid: The President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Dr. Aqeel Muftin, held a significant meeting with Alejandro Blanco, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, in Madrid, Spain, to explore avenues for strengthening sports cooperation. The discussions focused on developing joint Olympic initiatives and preparing Iraqi athletes for upcoming international competitions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was also attended by key figures including the Iraqi Ambassador to Spain, Ali Shamran, Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Haitham Abdul Hamid, Sports Advisor Hawar Mulla Mohammed, Spanish expert Ignasi Fabregas, and the Olympic Committee’s coordinator in Spain, Nasser Al-Hashemi. The agenda centered on enhancing collaboration between the Iraqi and Spanish Olympic bodies and implementing future programs aimed at advancing Iraqi sports.
Haitham Abdul Hamid highlighted that the meeting involved sharing crucial insights and ideas to bolster Olympic endeavors and national federations. He mentioned that the collaboration with Spain would encompass training courses and programs, allowing Iraq to leverage Spain’s expertise in various sporting domains.
The cooperation is expected to significantly impact the development of national sports federations in Iraq by utilizing Spain’s acclaimed administrative and technical proficiency. This partnership aims to elevate the capabilities of Iraqi athletes, ensuring they reach the necessary level of readiness for international competition.
Furthermore, Abdul Hamid noted that discussions included preparation strategies for the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The focus is on establishing long-term plans to enable Iraqi athletes to compete at an elite level and achieve commendable results on the global stage.
