Abu dhabi: The Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council is participating for the second consecutive year in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) 2026, which runs until September 6 at ADNEC Abu Dhabi. Irthi is presenting two exclusive collections that highlight different facets of Emirati craftsmanship. The first, “Al Thaya: Shaheen Edition,” is inspired by the world of falconry. The second is a jewelry collection in collaboration with Emirati jeweler Adi Al Fardan, drawing inspiration from the traditional craft of weaving (Saffifa) and is presented in celebration of Emirati Women’s Day.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this participation builds upon Irthi’s presence in the previous edition of the exhibition and reflects its commitment to expanding the reach of Emirati crafts. It provides new platforms that combine craftsmanship and design, opening broader horizons for engaging with cultural heritage.
ADIHEX is one of the leading specialized platforms celebrating the cultural heritage associated with hunting and equestrianism in the region. It serves as an ideal venue for showcasing works inspired by this heritage to an audience that appreciates its cultural value and keeps abreast of its developments.
During its participation, the Council is presenting the ‘Al Thaya Collection: The Shaheen Edition,’ an exclusive collection inspired by the aesthetics of falconry. It evokes falconry’s deep-rooted place in Emirati culture and embodies the values of authenticity, patience, skill, and connection to the environment.
The collection combines Emirati craftsmanship with innovation by incorporating details inspired by the traditional Emirati weaving technique of ‘Saffifa’ into natural leather. The designs draw inspiration from the fluidity of a falcon’s wings and the details of its hood, balancing beauty and function with a contemporary design language.
The collection includes falconers’ gloves, iPad cases, and leather chains and cords crafted from natural calfskin. These items incorporate elements inspired by Saffifa, falcon feathers, and the knots of the falcon’s hood, translating the elements of this heritage into pieces that combine practicality with meticulous craftsmanship.
This participation strengthens the presence of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council at specialized platforms that celebrate cultural heritage. It underscores its role in reintroducing Emirati crafts within the contemporary design landscape, contributing to expanding their reach to new audiences through products that combine authenticity and innovation.
