Najaf Police Impose Security Cordon After Deadly Tribal Brawl


Najaf: A security cordon has been imposed on a tribal area after a fight that resulted in one death and several injuries. The Najaf Police Command announced the imposition of a security cordon following a brawl in the northeast of the governorate that resulted in one death, several injuries, the arrest of a number of people, and the seizure of weapons.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, media officer Mufid Salem explained, “The altercation resulted in the death of a young man who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The Najaf Police Chief directed that strict security and legal measures be taken to pursue those responsible for the incident and control the situation.”



He added, “The Provincial Police Chief, his deputy, and the Kufa Police Chief oversaw the imposition of a security cordon around the area of the incident and the execution of raids and searches. The units commenced these operations after obtaining judicial approvals and based on available information and investigations.”



He clarified that the security forces were able to arrest five suspects, while the searches resulted in the seizure of several weapons suspected of being used in the altercation. These weapons were properly secured, and legal measures were taken against the suspects, who were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigations, uncover the circumstances of the incident, and determine legal responsibilities.
