Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi chaired the National Intelligence Council meeting on Monday, marking its seventh session of 2026, with the presence of council members.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the council focused on the current state of Iraqi prisons, emphasizing the need to align with the standards established by the United Nations and human rights organizations. The discussions centered around ensuring that the prison system and the treatment of inmates adhere to these international guidelines.

During the meeting, al-Aboudi highlighted the necessity of maintaining legal and humanitarian standards in addressing the situation. He also underscored the importance of implementing preventive measures to ensure the protection and safety of both prisons and inmates.
