Baghdad: The National Library and Archives recently organized a workshop aimed at educating employees of the Military Industrialization Authority on the Law on the Preservation of Documents, No. (37) of 2016. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to enhance document management and preservation practices within state institutions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Amer Saleh Ahmed, the Assistant Director of the Inspection Department, led the workshop with a comprehensive explanation of the law. His presentation covered the instructions and regulations related to document preservation and the mechanisms for handling them, all in line with established legal procedures.
The workshop also delved into the procedures for the destruction of documents that have exceeded their retention period. These processes are guided by approved schedules and instructions to ensure the preservation of documents with historical and administrative value. Additionally, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of archiving official documents within state institutions, highlighting the critical role archives play in maintaining institutional memory and accountability.
