Baghdad: The National Security Service, led by Arshad Al-Hakim, has announced the arrest of 93 individuals suspected of terrorism in a series of preemptive operations designed to dismantle dormant terrorist cells.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Arshad Al-Hakim, the official spokesman for the Service, shared that these operations are part of a broader initiative to enhance national security. During the first quarter of 2024, the Service launched the “Your Card is Your Security” campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the risks of financial fraud and electronic payment card theft, specifically targeting employees and retirees. Additionally, the “We Cooperate” campaign was introduced to educate university students about the dangers of drug use and its negative impact on society.

In a statement, Al-Hakim revealed that alongside the arrest of terrorism suspects, 208 individuals accused of drug trafficking were apprehended as part of continuous efforts to combat the proliferation of drugs. Furthermore, 302 individuals charged with cyber extortion were detained as part of a sustained campaign against digital crime networks threatening community security. The Service also seized 228 cards used for currency smuggling, highlighting ongoing campaigns against economic crimes.

Al-Hakim emphasized the success of the Regional Security Project, noting its contribution to a significant improvement in security operations. The project has notably reduced the duration of official correspondence from three months to just 48 hours, thereby enhancing response times and coordination efficiency.

In addition, Al-Hakim reported that 2,325 violating websites on social media platforms have been identified and addressed, based on valid judicial decisions, as part of efforts to maintain digital security.
