Baghdad: The NATO mission commander has affirmed the alliance's commitment to supporting Iraq in line with the priorities established by the Iraqi government. Lieutenant General Ramon Armada, leading the NATO mission in Iraq, underscored this commitment during a recent video conference call.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussion took place between Lieutenant General Armada and Iraq's National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Aboudi. The conversation focused on reducing regional tensions and exploring diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises. Both parties emphasized the importance of NATO's continued support for the Iraqi armed forces, primarily through consultation, training, and sharing information and expertise.

The dialogue also resulted in an agreement to establish a NATO mission office in Baghdad, marking a significant step towards enhancing collaboration. Al-Aboudi pointed out the mission's role in advising and training, emphasizing support in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, as well as fostering strategic partnerships with NATO countries. He highlighted Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's approach to fostering relations with friendly nations through development and investment initiatives that serve mutual interests.

Lieutenant General Armada reiterated NATO's dedication to enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces, ensuring they are well-prepared to tackle potential challenges. He emphasized that NATO's support aligns with the priorities determined by the Iraqi government, reinforcing the alliance's commitment to a stable and secure Iraq.
