Nineveh: The Mine Affairs Department has confirmed that there are no indications of contamination in the Sasan oil field area in Nineveh.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mustafa Hamid Majeed, Director of the Awareness and Media Department, stated in a press release that the Mine Affairs Department conducted Quality Assurance (QA) work on the activities of the National Effort, specifically the Military Engineering Directorate of the 15th Division. This team is tasked with carrying out non-technical surveys of the Sasan oil field, which spans more than two square kilometers in Nineveh Governorate. The work is being conducted on behalf of the North Oil Company, the beneficiary of this effort.

Majeed added that the QA work carried out by the Operations and Quality Control teams in his department included reviewing the outputs of the implementing teams. They also verified adherence to national standards and standard operating procedures, in addition to monitoring the methods used for collecting and analyzing community data.

He further indicated that the quality assurance teams in his department did not record any indicators of pollution within the area. This conclusion was based on interviews conducted with various samples of citizens and observations on the nature of land uses and the activities taking place in the region.
