Oil Minister Oversees Technical Consultancy Agreement with Chevron


Baghdad: The Minister of Oil oversaw the signing of a technical consultancy agreement between the Ministry of Oil and the American company Chevron. The agreement is aimed at providing technical consultancy services to the Basra Oil Company, under the guidance of Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair al-Abadi.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the minister announced that the agreement focuses on offering consultancy services during negotiations with the Basra Oil Company concerning the development of the West Qurna/2 oil field. The involvement of a major company like Chevron is expected to facilitate technical advancements and strategic planning during the development phase.



The statement released during the signing ceremony highlighted the presence of key officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Naseer Aziz, the Director General of the Basra Oil Company, the Director General of the State Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), and the Director General of the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Department. Their attendance underscores the significance of this agreement in the context of Iraq’s oil industry development plans.
