Brussels: The Ministry of Oil denied on Saturday reports of gasoline exports after commissioning the FCC catalytic cracking unit. “We deny what some news agencies have reported, claiming that the Ministry will export gasoline once the FCC catalytic cracking unit is operational,” said the Ministry spokesman Salim al-Rikabi in a press release reported by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

According to Iraqi News Agency, al-Rikabi emphasized that Iraq is expected to achieve self-sufficiency in petroleum products once the new unit becomes operational. He further mentioned that Iraq could become an exporter of certain petroleum products following the completion of expansion projects at other refineries. “This is what the Ministry is striving for and planning to achieve; aiming to transform Iraq from an importer to an exporter of petroleum products,” he stated, highlighting that the Ministry currently exports fuel oil and naphtha and has previously exported a shipment of jet fuel and sulfur.

Al-Rikabi urged media outlets to ensure accuracy in their reporting and to convey statements in a manner that reflects their true content.
