Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil confirmed on Wednesday that the tanker targeted in territorial waters was chartered by the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Ministry stated that it “wishes to clarify to the media and the public that a tanker vessel-designated for storing fuel oil and chartered by the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company-was struck by an unknown source while within Iraqi territorial waters, resulting in minor structural damage to the vessel’s hull.”

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry confirmed that “the incident resulted in no casualties or injuries among the crew, nor did it cause any leakage of the cargo into the water.”

It further noted that “competent authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and working to determine the source and cause of the impact.”
