Over 145,000 Syrians Return Home from Turkey Following Assad’s Fall

Ankara: More than 145,000 Syrians have returned to their country from Turkey since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced that 145,639 Syrians have returned since December 8, 2024.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yilmaz shared on the X platform that data from the Turkish Immigration Department indicates a total of 885,642 Syrians have returned to Syria between 2017 and March 2025. He mentioned that the return was voluntary, dignified, and safe, occurring to the safe zones established by Turkish military operations in northern Syria.

Yilmaz noted that the pace of return has increased following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. He expressed optimism that more Syrians would return as security conditions improve and reconstruction efforts advance in Syria. Since the regime’s fall, Syrians have been moving from various Turkish provinces to border crossings, preparing to return to their former homes.
