Megiddo: Palestinian prisoners in Megiddo prison have reportedly been injured by shrapnel from Israeli interceptor missiles during a confrontation involving Iranian missiles. The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Defense has expressed significant concern over the incident, emphasizing the dire conditions faced by prisoners.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, shrapnel from the Israeli interceptor missiles, which were launched to counter Iranian missiles, penetrated sections of the Megiddo prison buildings. This resulted in direct injuries to several prisoners, including sick detainees, who are already enduring harsh detention conditions.

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Defense issued a statement highlighting the refusal of occupation authorities to transfer the injured to hospitals or provide medical care. The Center condemned this as a blatant violation of prisoners’ rights, as outlined by the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.

The Center has demanded an immediate disclosure of the injured prisoners’ conditions and identities, along with urgent access for the Red Cross and human rights organizations to visit Megiddo Prison. They have called for an international investigation into the alleged medical negligence and the risk posed to the prisoners’ lives.

Holding the occupation authorities accountable for the prisoners’ safety, the Center warned of ongoing severe violations amid the recent military escalation. Over 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, many from the Gaza Strip, are currently held in Israeli prisons under what are described as the most hazardous detention conditions seen in decades.
