Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani discussed the water releases issue with the Turkish Ambassador.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament Speaker’s media office stated that al-Mashhadani received the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Anil Bora Inan. The meeting covered bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey, focusing on areas to strengthen ties, expand shared interests, and activate parliamentary friendship committees.

In addition, Speaker al-Mashhadani emphasized the importance of reinforcing economic relations between the two nations. He encouraged Turkish investment companies to enter the Iraqi market and highlighted the need to expedite the development path, which is expected to significantly impact the economic landscape. Further discussions included potential investments in the oil and gas sector and the mutual import and export of goods.

The statement also noted discussions on the ongoing water issue, with a focus on maintaining the agreed-upon water releases and additional payments. The meeting also covered the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, underscoring the commitment to conduct them transparently and free from external influence.

The Turkish Ambassador, Anil Bora Inan, reiterated Turkey’s openness to collaboration with Iraq on political and economic issues. He assured that the water issue and related payments are proceeding as agreed during al-Mashhadani’s recent visit to Turkey, reaffirming the commitment made by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
