Baghdad:Parliament Speaker Haibat Al-Halbousi stated that the conclusion of the Global Coalition’s mission does not signify an end to cooperative relations.
According to Iraqi News Agency, on National Sovereignty Day, Al-Halbousi emphasized the importance of Iraq’s sovereignty, asserting that it is a constitutional and national responsibility. He highlighted that Iraq’s sovereignty is not open to interpretation or compromise and is an immutable right.
The statement underscored that Iraq is a sovereign state, with decisions driven by the will of its people, where the rule of law prevails. Al-Halbousi insisted that Iraq should not become a battleground for conflicts nor a conduit for aggression, and its resources should not be subject to external interference.
From his position in the Presidency of the Parliament, Al-Halbousi reinforced the commitment to protecting Iraq¾¢s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making, emphasizing the strength of the state and the supremacy of the law.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Iraqis for a free homeland and stressed the importance of maintaining these through a robust state that ensures the dignity of its citizens and respects national interests.
On Sovereignty Day, Al-Halbousi reiterated that Iraq¾¢s sovereignty takes precedence over all considerations and thanked friendly nations for their support against terrorism. He clarified that the end of the International Coalition¾¢s mission marks a new phase of cooperation grounded in mutual respect and shared interests, protecting Iraq¾¢s sovereignty and independent decision-making.
Al-Halbousi concluded by affirming the significance of state sovereignty and the rule of law in building a stable Iraq, emphasizing that all arms and forces must operate within state institutions, aligned with constitutional provisions to maintain Iraq’s security and stability.
