Parliament Speaker: Targeting Security Personnel on Duty Is an Attack on the State and Its Legal Authority


Baghdad: Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi affirmed on Thursday that targeting security personnel while on duty is an attack on the state and its legal authority.



According to Iraqi News Agency, the Speaker’s media office stated in a press release that Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi visited the families of the two martyrs, Brigadier General Hisham Muhammad Tala’ al-Salman, Director of the Al-Amana Police Department in Karkh, and Commissioner Khalid Abbas Lafta al-Fawali. Both were martyred while performing their official duties in the Dora area during an operation to remove encroachments and enforce the law.



The Speaker offered his condolences and sympathies to the families of the two martyrs, emphasizing that targeting security personnel while performing their duties constitutes an attack on the state and its legal authority. He stated that this necessitates a firm stance and holding those responsible accountable.



He further noted that justice will take its course, and the perpetrators of this crime will receive their just punishment according to the law.
