Baghdad: The Parliamentary Legal Committee has clarified the situation regarding the potential postponement of the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections. The elections are set to take place on November 11, as decided by the Council of Ministers.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, committee member MP Alia Nassif emphasized that the likelihood of delaying the elections or amending the current law is minimal. She noted that the Council of Representatives is not in a position to enact a new electoral law, given that the Commission has finalized all necessary logistical, technical, and financial preparations for the elections.

MP Nassif further stated that the existing election law will remain in effect, and the elections will proceed on the planned date, barring any unforeseen emergencies. She highlighted that ongoing threats from Israel towards neighboring Iran present significant challenges that impact Iraq and the broader region. These geopolitical tensions could potentially influence the election timeline, although no changes have been made so far.
