The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, affirmed that Iraq has an excellent opportunity for rapid progress towards development.
She said in a statement today, Friday: “As the end of the year approaches, we usually evaluate the events of the past year and what was achieved, as we look forward and think about what we hope to do better in the coming year. ”
She added: “There is no denying that 2022 was a difficult year for the Iraqis, but as the year drew to a close, government institutions were able to resume their duties, to give Iraq a great opportunity to embark on the path of stability and progress. In this spirit and for the sake of future generations, let us all work together in in 2023 and beyond, to address the multiple challenges Iraq faces while ensuring a public space conducive to dialogue, human rights and fundamental freedoms.
She continued: “The country, with its rich cultural, ethnic and religious heritage, as well as its geography and untapped resources, has great potential, supported by political stability and stable revenues, and if opportunities are already seized, Iraq has an excellent opportunity for rapid progress towards sustainable development, and in this case, a promising future the Iraqi people, who have overcome so many adversities, are waiting.”
She ended by saying, on behalf of the entire United Nations family, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year of peace and wellness.
