Baghdad: President of the republic Nizar Amedi on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s special attention to Holy Karbala province, given its deep-rooted symbolic significance in the hearts and minds of Iraqis and Muslims. The Presidency’s media office stated that President Amedi met with Karbala Governor Nassif Jassim al-Khattabi, Provincial Council Chairman Qasim al-Yasiri, members of the provincial council, and heads of administrative units, as part of the president’s visit to the province.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the meeting discussed the situation in Holy Karbala province and its service and development needs, as well as plans to boost development and improve infrastructure in line with the growing religious and tourism activity in the province. President Amedi highlighted Holy Karbala’s historical role as a center of religious and spiritual significance and as a beacon of resistance to injustice and tyranny.
President Amedi noted the province’s participation in notable national events, particularly the uprisings of 1977 and 1991, which demonstrated the people of Karbala’s resistance to authoritarianism and injustice. He emphasized that Karbala was the origin of the fatwa calling for sufficient-jihad, mobilizing the Iraqi people to confront and defeat ISIS terrorist groups.
The president stressed the importance of acknowledging Holy Karbala’s significant religious and historical standing. He pointed out that the province is home to the shrines of Imam Hussein bin Ali and his brother Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas(PBUT), among others, drawing millions of visitors from inside and outside Iraq. President Amedi emphasized the need to improve services and urban development, enhancing the province’s capacity to host visitors and provide quality services.
President Amedi assured support for the local government’s efforts in Holy Karbala and backed plans to promote the province’s prosperity. He stressed that serving citizens, meeting their needs, and improving service levels are key priorities, urging attention to residents’ demands within the framework of the law and available resources.
The Karbala governor, the chairman, and members of the provincial council, along with heads of administrative units, welcomed the president’s visit. They discussed the main challenges and needs facing Holy Karbala and proposed projects aimed at enhancing services and promoting development.
