Baghdad: President Nizar Amedi expressed his condolences following the death of King Harald V of Norway, highlighting the late king’s commitment to peace and dialogue in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). President Amedi remarked, “We received with deep sorrow the news of the death of King Harald V of Norway, who dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country and people and contributed to establishing the values of peace, coexistence, and human solidarity.”
According to Iraqi News Agency, President Amedi extended his sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the leadership, and the government of the Kingdom of Norway, as well as to its people, expressing his hope for their patience during this difficult time. He acknowledged the Kingdom of Norway’s responsible positions on international and humanitarian issues, its support for peace and dialogue, and its efforts to protect human rights and promote development and cooperation among nations, which are held in high regard and respect.
In a separate development, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of four individuals related to an incident that occurred yesterday. The Ministry confirmed that arrest warrants have been issued for additional suspects, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing. Major General Miqdad Miri, Director of the Media and Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior, stated that considerable effort by security forces led to the arrests, and investigations are currently underway.
Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi has directed the continued pursuit of the perpetrators and their referral to the judiciary. The Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, along with all security agencies, is actively following up on the case to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. Legal actions are being prepared against any individuals who violated the law, whether through illegal sales or other infractions. Investigations are ongoing, with the Baghdad Municipality also involved in addressing the matter.
Regarding the incident’s weapons, Major General Miri clarified that only light weapons were used, with no involvement of heavy weaponry. He emphasized that dealing with weapons is illegal, and measures are being taken by the Ministry of Interior, with announcements to follow upon completion. Any area experiencing encroachments will face necessary actions by the Baghdad Municipality and the Ministry of Interior.
