Baghdad: The President of the Republic emphasized the significance of freedom of expression and adherence to professional standards as essential components in establishing a robust national media. During a meeting at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, President Nizar Amidi engaged with Baligh Abu Kalal, the head of the Executive Authority of the Media and Communications Commission.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidential Media Office released a statement noting that the discussion focused on the current media environment in the country and explored ways to develop it. The development aims to safeguard freedom of opinion and expression, ensure responsible media discourse, and promote the national interest.

President Amidi highlighted the necessity of building a strong national media landscape by guaranteeing freedom of expression and adherence to professional and legal standards. He underscored the importance of protecting the media from practices that could undermine trust in media institutions or incite societal division.

In response, Baligh Abu Kalal provided an overview of the Commission’s operations and its future plans. These plans are designed to enhance the quality of professional media content while ensuring the protection of freedom of expression.
