Prime Minister Al-Zaidi Urges Completion of Residential Land Initiative

Accra:Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi commended the efforts of governorates that have completed their part in the “one million residential plots” initiative. He urged the remaining governorates to finalize their procedures before the end of the year. The announcement came during the 6th regular session of the High Commission for Coordination between Governorates.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi highlighted the positive impact of the Watan Initiative, which provides residential land plots in the Karbala and Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorates. He praised the governors for their dedication to the initiative’s progress and emphasized the government’s commitment to seeing the project through without delays.

The Prime Minister insisted that all land allocation procedures must be completed promptly to lay the foundation stone by the year’s end. He stated he would personally intervene if any governorate failed to meet the deadlines. Additionally, Al-Zaidi discussed plans for designating new cities and preparing the necessary land, stressing an expedited approach to these procedures.

Ihsan Al-Awadi, Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, reported that Karbala, Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, and Anbar governorates have fully met the project requirements. Five other governorates, including Maysan, Al-Muthanna, Wasit, Baghdad, and Nineveh, have made significant progress, while work continues at a fast pace in the remaining governorates, resulting in 275,000 residential land plots being ready.

The session also approved measures to enhance the industrial sector, requiring all governorates to adhere to Industrial Coordination Council Resolutions No. 12 of 2026 and No. 29 of 2025. These resolutions focus on preparing and subdividing 1,000 dunams of land for industrial projects, with governorates needing to report their progress.

To combat Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, governorates, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Agriculture, are tasked with overseeing veterinary hospitals’ animal spraying and dipping campaigns. The government allocated 2 billion Iraqi dinars for these preventive measures, along with logistical support.

In terms of healthcare, governorates with extensive highways and border crossings are to include plans for constructing a 50-bed hospital. These facilities, planned in coordination with the Ministries of Health and Planning, aim to provide rapid emergency medical assistance. The hospitals will be strategically located and equipped with suitable ambulances for their geographic areas.
