Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed that Baghdad is a beacon of culture, a lighthouse of thought, and a cradle of literature. He emphasized that books are a weapon against ignorance, a remedy against extremism, and a repository of identity.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Office highlighted that the Prime Minister inaugurated the 27th Baghdad International Book Fair today, Wednesday, in the presence of a large official and public audience. Al-Zaidi stressed the significance of the event, underscoring Baghdad’s enduring role as a cultural hub. He articulated that books serve as a bridge from the limitations of the present to the vastness of the future, portraying them as crucial tools in combating ignorance and extremism while preserving cultural identity.

Al-Zaidi further elaborated that the exhibition’s opening creates new opportunities for intellectual engagement, encouraging dialogue and fostering a sense of belonging to a literate and creative nation. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this event in opening windows to the mind, providing spaces for conversation, and inspiring future generations.

During the event, the Prime Minister toured the pavilions of Iraqi, Arab, and international publishing houses participating in the exhibition.
