Protesters in Wasit Demand Government Intervention for Electricity Crisis

Wasit: Protesters in Wasit, frustrated by inadequate electricity supply, are urging government and parliamentary committees to investigate the abuses they have endured. Wasit Governorate saw a demonstration this evening focused on calling for better electricity services and a fixed allocation of at least 1500 megawatts for the province.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the protesters are also advocating for the maintenance and expansion of the current power plant, the construction of a new power generation facility, and improvements in transmission and distribution networks to address power losses. In addition, they firmly oppose the privatization of the electricity sector and are calling for corruption investigations.

The demonstrators have demanded that governmental, parliamentary, and security committees visit them to discuss and investigate the violations committed against demonstrators in previous protests. They have pledged to persist with their peaceful movement until their demands are fully addressed.
