Tehran: Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced on Sunday the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, after several ships attempted to sail in an unauthorized channel. The Guard blamed foreign interference for the deteriorating security situation in the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Revolutionary Guard issued a statement warning that foreign interference in determining shipping routes within the Strait of Hormuz "will lead to decisive measures." The statement highlighted that several ships ignored warnings and attempted to sail in an unauthorized channel, despite being asked to correct their course and adhere to the approved route. It was noted that one ship, which endangered maritime security after disabling its systems, was fired upon with warning shots, leading to its being stopped.
The statement further emphasized that "due to the unstable security situation resulting from illegal foreign interference, it has been decided to close the Strait of Hormuz until further notice and until the end of American interference in the region. No ship will be allowed to pass through it."
The Revolutionary Guard also pledged to respond "forcefully" to any new attack on Iran, asserting that it would target "the enemy's new bases in the region." Additionally, the statement held countries that, according to it, allowed the "American-Zionist enemy" to enter their territories responsible for the consequences.
