Basra: The Governor of Basra has announced that the newly inaugurated Shalamcheh border crossing is now better equipped to handle the influx of Arbaeen pilgrims this year. Governor Asaad Al-Eidani highlighted the enhancements at the crossing point, emphasizing its increased capacity to accommodate the anticipated surge in visitors for the commemoration of Imam Hussein.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Governor Al-Eidani, who also leads the Higher Security Committee in Basra, reported that the Shalamcheh border crossing successfully managed approximately 1.5 million visitors from Iran and other countries last year. With the opening of the new facilities, the crossing is now more prepared to manage the growing number of pilgrims this year. The governor stressed the importance of coordination with Iranian authorities to ensure the smooth flow of visitors and improve the readiness of the border staff.

The upgraded Shalamcheh crossing boasts new facilities, including buses stationed near the reception hall gates to facilitate the easy entry and movement of pilgrims. This arrangement aims to prevent any obstacles and ensure a seamless experience for those commemorating the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein.

Governor Al-Eidani also recently hosted an Iranian security delegation at the Shalamcheh border crossing. The delegation, led by Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, included the Governor of Khuzestan, Mohammad Reza Mavalizadeh, and the Iranian Consul in Basra, Ali Abedi. The visit was focused on reviewing the preparations in place to welcome the Arbaeen pilgrims.
