BAGHDAD: Six individuals were arrested on charges of terrorism, human trafficking, and antiquities trafficking in coordinated operations in Baghdad and Babylon, Iraq, the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security reported today.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the operations were carried out by the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate and the Babylon Intelligence and Security Directorate, both of which are branches of the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security. The agencies targeted individuals wanted on various charges, leading to multiple arrests in two separate cities.

In Baghdad, a woman was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Law, specifically referenced by Article 4, for her involvement in terrorism-related activities. Additionally, two women were apprehended in the act of selling an eight-year-old girl, a clear case of human trafficking. The child was rescued, and the suspects were handed over to the appropriate legal authorities.

Meanwhile, in Babylon, three individ
uals were detained for dealing in illegal antiquities. They were caught possessing ancient coins, which they allegedly intended to sell. These suspects were also taken into custody and are facing legal actions as per the regulations governing the trafficking of historical items.

The General Directorate emphasized the effectiveness of their intelligence operations and affirmed their commitment to combating criminal activities that threaten Iraq’s security and cultural heritage.
