Baghdad: A patient with a gunshot wound to the skull was successfully saved at Al-Sadr Medical City in Najaf. The critical emergency surgery was conducted by a specialized medical team in brain and spine surgery affiliated with the Najaf Health Directorate. The patient had sustained a severe injury from a gunshot wound that penetrated her skull, resulting in brain tissue damage, bleeding, and a blood clot within the brain tissue.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Ahmed Mutashar, a specialist in brain and spine surgery, emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the severity of the injury required immediate surgical intervention. The relevant medical and health personnel were quickly mobilized to manage the case and save the patient’s life.
Dr. Mutashar detailed the procedure, stating that the operation involved extracting the bullet, removing shattered fragments from the skull bone, controlling the bleeding, and removing the blood clot from the brain tissue. The medical team also treated the damage caused by the bullet’s trajectory within the skull. The operation was successfully completed, ensuring the patient’s survival.
