Baghdad: The State Administration Coalition has raised concerns about the potential impact of US sanctions on Iraq, emphasizing its commitment to reforms and anti-corruption initiatives. The coalition, which remains steadfast in its coordination among its member groups, has pledged support for state institutions as they navigate current economic challenges. It stressed that Iraq’s fragile financial situation cannot withstand additional strains from sanctions levied on other nations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the coalition’s 38th regular meeting at the Government Palace on Saturday evening focused on the economic, financial, and investment landscape, including projects like new cities and the ambitious one million residential plots initiative. These discussions underscored the importance of advancing measures that promote investment and address the housing shortage. In a significant move, the Prime Minister announced a halt on demolishing illegal structures until the distribution of the residen
tial plots to eligible individuals is completed.
The coalition reiterated its backing of the government’s anti-corruption drive, which seeks the prosecution of corrupt figures in line with legal procedures. Discussions also covered the draft law for the Federal Internal Oversight Authority and other legislative priorities essential for government program implementation.
On the political scene, coalition members reviewed internal and regional developments, highlighting the need for a united national stance to uphold Iraq’s stability, sovereignty, and interests. They agreed to initiate talks with relevant blocs next week to finalize the government formation and reaffirmed their rejection of sectarian rhetoric, aiming to bolster national unity and social peace based on constitutional principles.
Additionally, the coalition stressed the importance of progressing with the draft oil and gas law for submission to the Council of Representatives and continuing to bolster the private sector as a key development part
ner. The Prime Minister also announced an upcoming financial disbursement aimed at settling pending payments to farmers and contractors, signaling a step forward in addressing financial obligations.
