Supreme Judicial Council Initiates Legal Action Against Sectarian Incitement

Baghdad: The Supreme Judicial Council has issued directives to initiate legal measures against individuals who incite sectarian strife. This move is aimed at curbing the spread of divisive rhetoric that threatens societal unity and peace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council’s media office released a statement highlighting the directive for relevant investigative courts and Public Prosecution members to actively monitor and address instances where sectarian language is used in media and social media platforms. The objective is to identify and prosecute those who exploit sectarian terms for political or personal gain, in line with existing legal frameworks.

The directive comes in the wake of a State Administration Coalition meeting, held on Saturday, which included the participation of the four presidencies and the nation’s political leaders. The gathering underscored a collective stance against the propagation of sectarian rhetoric, advocating for punitive measures against perpetrators for their violation of the constitution and legal standards.
