Syria: Hasakah Truce Extended for Maximum of One Month Between Government and SDF

Hasakah: The Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday their agreement to extend the ceasefire in Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, for up to one month. This move aims to maintain the cessation of hostilities and advance efforts to integrate Kurdish forces into state institutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Syrian official sources stated that “the agreement came after continuous negotiations in Damascus over the past few days, amid international and regional pressure to contain tensions and prevent a resumption of military operations.” They explained that “the truce includes a ceasefire along the front lines and provides an opportunity to discuss mechanisms for implementing the terms of the political agreement.”

Through this extension, the Syrian government seeks to secure relative stability in Hasakah, which has witnessed intermittent clashes with the SDF. This follows a series of understandings announced on January 18, which included a ceasefire and granted the SDF a deadline to prepare a detailed plan for integrating its forces into the Syrian army.

For its part, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed in an official statement their commitment to the ceasefire and their pledge not to resume military operations unless attacked. They expressed hope that the extension would contribute to tangible progress in the political and military integration process within state institutions.
