Syrian Government and SDF Reach Understanding on Hasakah’s Future

Damascus: The Syrian Presidency announced a joint understanding between the government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regarding the future of Hasakah. A significant development in the ongoing dialogue between the two parties, this understanding outlines several key steps towards integration and cooperation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency stated that the agreement grants the SDF a period of four days to consult on a detailed plan for the practical integration of the areas. This plan aims to prevent Syrian forces from entering the city centers of Hasakah and Qamishli, with forces remaining on the outskirts. The specifics of the peaceful integration of Hasakah Governorate, including the city of Qamishli, are to be discussed further.

The statement also clarified that Syrian military forces will not enter Kurdish villages, ensuring that only local security forces from the region will be present. Furthermore, Mazloum Abdi is expected to present a candidate from the SDF for the position of Assistant Minister of Defense, as well as a candidate for the Governor of Hasakah, names for representation in the People’s Assembly, and a list of individuals for employment within state institutions.

The agreement includes the integration of all SDF military and security forces into the Ministries of Defense and Interior. The implementation of this agreement is set to begin at 8:00 PM this evening.
