Baghdad: The unified national card is currently undergoing rigorous technical testing by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) as part of preparations for its potential use in upcoming elections.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the IHEC has initiated a series of technical tests and simulations on the data from the unified national identity card, which were received from the Ministry of Interior. The aim is to assess the feasibility of integrating this data into the electoral process. A press release from IHEC highlighted that the technical and legal committee, responsible for examining the card’s application in voting, convened under the leadership of Judge Fayyad Yassin Hussein, Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and Head of the Supervisory Committee. The meeting was also attended by Judge Abbas Al-Fatlawi, Assistant Head of the Electoral Administration for Technical Affairs, alongside other key officials like Muhannad Fadhil and Rahim Nasser.

During this meeting, the committee delved into the technical and legal frameworks necessary for processing the data from the Ministry of Interior. This data will be subjected to a series of technical procedures, facilitated by the voting machine manufacturer and coordinated with IHEC experts. Furthermore, the committee plans to conduct multiple simulations and tests to determine the data’s viability for electoral use. The ultimate goal is to reach a sound technical decision regarding the card’s implementation in the electoral process.
