Altun kupri: Three suspects have been arrested in relation to an attack on a Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) checkpoint in the Altun Kupri district, north of Kirkuk. Security forces detained the individuals, two of whom are Peshmerga fighters and brothers, following the incident last week that resulted in the death of one PMF member and injuries to another.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a security source disclosed that the brothers from the Peshmerga forces are among the accused and are currently undergoing investigation. The arrests are part of a broader inquiry into the attack on the checkpoint.
The director of the Kupri district, Abdul Muttalib Najm al-Din, confirmed that the security forces are acting under a judicial order to investigate the case. He stated, “If anyone is suspected, they will be arrested and interrogated.” He also refuted circulating reports in some media outlets claiming that the army and PMF have initiated a campaign to arrest young men in Altun Kupri, clarifying that only specific wanted individuals and suspects were apprehended.
