Baghdad: The Tourism and Statistics Authority is focusing on the development of data and indicators to bolster tourism planning. Engineer Nasser Ghanem Murad, head of the Tourism Authority, highlighted the necessity of advancing modern tourism data and statistics. This effort aims to monitor tourism activities, identify sector needs, and guide planning, investment, and the enhancement of tourism and hospitality services.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this initiative was discussed during a meeting between Engineer Murad and Dr. Diaa Awad Kadhim, head of the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority. The discussion centered around updating tourism indicators, strengthening national databases, and providing national accounts with precise data that reflect the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP.

Both leaders underscored the significance of enhancing institutional cooperation and leveraging modern data and digital transformation. These steps are intended to support tourism and economic development efforts. In recognition of his efforts to strengthen joint cooperation, Engineer Murad presented Dr. Kadhim with the “Shield of Excellence and Creativity.”
