Transfer of Iranian Prisoners from Iraq to Iran Via Mehran Border Crossing

Tehran: Dozens of Iranian prisoners were transferred from Iraqi prisons to their country. The Iranian Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday the transfer of dozens of its citizens imprisoned in Iraqi jails to Iran via the Mehran border crossing.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated in a press release that “the operation involved the transfer of 49 Iranian citizens who were serving prison sentences in Iraq. They will be transported across the Mehran land border to complete their sentences in Iran.”

This step comes within the framework of implementing joint security and judicial agreements between Baghdad and Tehran concerning the exchange and transfer of prisoners between the two countries.
