Sulaimaniyah: The trial of Lahur Sheikh Jangi, head of the People’s Front Party, along with his brother Polad and ten other defendants, has been postponed by the Sulaimaniyah Criminal Court. The trial, related to the Lalezar events case, was initially scheduled for today but will now be rescheduled for next Sunday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the court gathered this morning to address charges against Sheikh Jangi and his associates under Article (56) of the Iraqi Penal Code, which deals with attempted murder. However, the proceedings were delayed after testimonies from six defendants were reheard. These defendants claimed their previous confessions were obtained under duress and torture, as reported by Dana Taqi al-Din, the defense team spokesperson, during a press conference outside the courthouse.

The case is connected to the incidents and security clashes that occurred in the Lalezar area of Sulaimaniyah earlier this year. The defense team awaits notification of the new trial date, expected to be announced at the start of official working hours next Sunday.
